Eastern Week is a special holiday for our family and when the moment to decide came up, we chose a beautiful farm located up north from Liberia; Hacienda Guachipelin.
I was born and raised in Costa Rica. Therefore, I spent a lot of my childhood living in Guanacaste. Horseback riding or swimming in the rivers (long before tourism took over) were included in our daily activities. So, as you may be thinking right now, going back there brought me a large amount of flashbacks and memories.
It’s amazing how just the smell of a cup of Agua dulce (drink made of sugar cane) can bring back so many memories. All of a sudden, memoirs like the cows in the mornings, the sabaneros (men working on farms with the horses , caws, plantations, etc…) rising the dust in their “sabana”, friendly smiles of local people… up to the last detail and memory, everything came back to me, everything was still there!
I got so excited once I arrived that the whole trip became a search of adventures and activities that reminded me of my childhood days. The managers and owners of Hacienda Guachipelin did a terrific job, blending the rustic enjoyment of a simple farming life, with the facilities a great hotel should have. Visitors can have a real Costarican experience, sharing time with real sabaneros, taking pictures of themselves riding the Ox Carts and swimming in the natural hot thermal waters with local children.
This Hotel never forgot to provide a nice comfortable bed, clean rooms, yummy Costarican food, refreshing pool, bars, hammocks, benches… as I tell you; every detail is completely thought through. Every element there has a reason to be…
The week passed so quickly and we were able to do so many adventures. Both children and adults had their favorites and as always, the staff made it all easy and fun (in spite of having to work during the holiday week). Canopy, tubing, horses, hiking; discover the volcano, and their best: the mug bath, simple and pleasant, this magical gift of nature has become a motive of laughs and softer skins….
Overall, as you can read, I was astonished by the whole adventure and once we came back to San Jose, my heart carried a bit more of Costa Rica in it, in all of us actually. My daughter even told us how the next time, she would definitely go join the “sabaneros” day tour, because she left there feeling like one!
So, on this edition I want to recommend all of you adventurers out there, to visit this Costa Rican Hacienda and fill your heart with a little “Costa Rican Spirit”
Much Love to you all,
Sylvia Chavez
